There's a lot to be said for a workplace where you can upgrade your wardrobe if you don't like what you had to put on at home. This morning I arrived at Women's World in a black jacket that was WAAAY too stuffy for both the high humidity and the light-weight Ann Taylor blouse (last year's clearance) I was featuring between the buttons. Before the customers arrived in force, one of my coworkers had the problem solved, with a pretty black eyelet blouse that makes a great Macy's jacket when work unbuttoned. On sale, but not clearance-- boo hoo! Of course I handed it to her for ringing in. And all morning long, as the air conditioning tickled my suntouched arms, I smiled at the new friend and the new jacket. With seven shifts coming up in the next eight days -- all of them due to hit 80 or above -- it hardly feels like an extravagance. Still, it's time to check my balance again... and pay it down, if not put the card away.
That's the fun of being a contingent -- I get to work throughout the store, and meet lots of people and their merchandise while getting paid.
The other big plus: I tell them when I plan to work -- not the other way round!
